    Why this date result?

Hopefully this illustration is self explanatory:

    Re: Why this date result?

    It is not self-explanatory.

"This is what I get if I copy/paste B6." Did you copy something to B6? Where did you copy it from? What is bringing that dialog box up?

An image attachment has very little value. Just attach the Excel file. It's easier than taking a screenshot first and then attaching that. It will be much easier to understand your problem if you provide your file. Under the text box where you type your reply click the Go Advanced button. On the next screen scroll down and click on Manage Attachments, which will show a pop-up window to Select and Upload a file. Then close the window./U]

    Re: Why this date result?

    Now sorted, thanks Jeff.

I tried to avoid getting into potentially confusing details, but in case you're curious: the window showing '20010709' was actually displayed by a script I'd written with my macro-writing app, Macro Express Pro. It operates on two worksheets, successively copying some 40 cells from one sheet to the other (because my VBA skills are now negligible). It works perfectly, albeit glacially slowly, on all cells ... except B6. I was so focused on the fact that that was a date (with its potential formatting issues) that I didn't look harder enough at other alternatives. When I did, I discovered that, for just that cell, my script had failed to change focus from the destination sheet back to the source sheet. So '20010709' is the content of B6 in the destination!

P.S. For even more details, see thread http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...ml#post4581891

    Re: Why this date result?

Thanks for the update. A lot of times a question will focus on where an issue becomes visible, but sometimes more information is needed to figure out where the underlying cause is. In this case I probably could have helped pretty quickly if I had your file and could see your code.

    Glad you got it sorted!
