Can t2c help in this scenario? I need the values inside certain sets of parantheses, which

    Hi Excel experts,

i can't crack this..it's been bugging me for some time. I'll try my best to explain.

    2 columns:

Column A - A set of keywords with values, separated by commas
Column B - I need to filter certain keywords, and sum the total of the values in those filtered keywords

To illustrate, i've attached an image.
    Eg.,
    1. in the cell A2, I will require the value for "Toshiba" only - which is doable because Toshiba is the only relevant keyword, i could use the Find & Replace function easily
    2. The real challenge is something like, if i require values in multiple keywords. In the cell A3, I need the total for "PlayStation" and "Sony", which is 2 in sum.

I have a set of keywords in which the values are relevant, like "samsung", "sony", "playstation", "panasonic", "macbook", "apple", "note", etc.

The generic ones, like "companies", "company", "continued", etc., are not relevant keywords in this projects.

Is there a way to teach the system the set of relevant keywords, and then instruct it to extract the total values contained inside the parenthesis of the keywords?

A blurry image doesn't do it.

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.
