    Vlookup and index formulas doesnt work

    help!! attached is my worksheet. data will come from sheet 2 and will be posted in stock card sheet. i cannot generate the next line. i want to get data for tape transparent for the different dates

    A VLOOKUP will find one value and always the same value unless you adjust the lookup range. However in this case the original data doesn't seem to be in any sort of consistent pattern which would allow a lookup.

    But for this sort of stuff where you're extracting records from a database you should be using an Advanced Data filter.

    Hello Ligaya and Welcome to Excel Forum.
    If I understand correctly the following array entered formula* will display the correct dates:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
    Please Login or Register  to view this content.

    Similar formulas may be used in columns B through E, as shown in the attached file.
    *Array entered formulas are activated by simultaneously pressing the Ctrl, Shift and Enter keys.
    Let us know if you have any questions.

    Why ever not? The advanced filter will return all the items you define in the criteria range you set.

    Select the item in the B11 drop down. The filter macro does the rest.
