Protecting a shared workbook

I have a community workbook that thousands use. It is shared on google docs but I have people deleting information. We need a pay it forward spreadsheet where people can edit to add information but not delete any infromation without permission. We have thousands of users adding information daily but some users are deleting by accident and it is unrecoverable. I can add a link to show you what I am talking about.

Should this be in the formula section of the forum?

I'm not trying to be flippant here, but this seems to be a Google Docs question and not native Excel. Would the link below answer your question?

From Google "Docs editors Help" and the page is titled "Protect, hide, and edit sheets".

I don't take it as flippant but no, this is not exactly what I am looking for. I need to be able to protect data that has already been added so that it cannot be deleted but make it editable for new reviewers.
I would have to reselect a range every time it was edited.

I understand your problem. Unless that's implicit in the "Edit" permission, if applied to the whole spreadsheet, I don't see how to prevent data deletion. I don't have quick access to a second Gmail account to test this. I'm sorry that I couldn't help.

I dont use google docs at all, but security in excel is notoriously weak, and does not take much at all to bypass. Because you want them to add data, you cant even use the Save As with PW protection
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
