Referencing second column in calculation

I have created a simple sheet to show an example of what I am trying to achieve.

I want to count a series of dates - I have done this with a simple COUNTIF request over a range. However,some of these dates have multiples assigned to them which don't count as things stand. How do I get the multiples to count? Example attached.

Thank You Nicky, though I had a problem transferring the data across a sheet. I have attached a file with the same question, though to go on a 2nd tab.
