How to Work-Around Known Issue?

I've read that there is an issue when inserting hyperlinks in Excel 2016 and I seem to be having this issue. I am looking for how to work around this.

I have an Excel sheet with data and want to link the document number entered in Excel to link to the corresponding form. When adding the hyperlinks, Excel freezes as soon as I get the "Insert Hyperlink" window. I then have to control-alt-delete to get out of Excel. This is with Windows 10, version 1709, and Office 2016. Is there any way to work around this issue? Any suggestions? Thanks!!!
