    Smile Seeking inspiration: How do you guys use IF, SUMIF, Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP?

    Hi, fellow Excel fans!

    I'm about to do some Excel training for a group of people. Some of the topics are: IF, SUMIF, Pivot Tables, and VLOOKUP.

    I'm looking for inspiration to the specific assignments and examples that I'm going to use in the training.

    What do you guys use IF, SUMIF, Pivot Tables, or VLOOKUP for? And how?

    Please, be as detailed as possible and feel free to use screenshots.

    I'd really appreciate any responses to this

    How long do you have?

    Seriously, your request is way too general. Share the data examples you want to use and we'll suggest which functions could be demonstrated.

    I find it extremely amusing that someone about to run a training session would need to ask members of a forum to provide examples and screenshots.

    Totally forgot about the cross-posting rules. And now I can't edit the post. Please delete the thread for now so I can return with a more elaborate one.

    I'm glad you find it amusing

    I have plenty of examples from previous training sessions but I find it nice to keep my examples fresh. Maybe someone here works with the IF function in a way I've overlooked in my other examples. I can see why my post needs to be more specific!

    Alright, I'll start with something.

    1) A student of mine, Birgit (Danish name), set up a rather large system that her sales force could fill in when completing orders. The system generates proposals for the sales person to send out afterwards.
    Birgit used a lot of IF functions (now she uses IFS instead) to fill the right information in the right cells depending on the input of certain cells.

    Once a week, she collects all the information from the orders generated from the system and put it in a Pivot Table. Before using Pivot Tables, she used SUMIF and COUNTIF a lot to create a report with basically the same information as what the Pivot Table can spit out with minimal set up time.

    She's struggling with getting a macro to do all the dirty work for her so it's a process, really.

    2) Another student is often exporting inventory lists and sales sheets from his e-commerce site. When he get's a custom request from one of his big customers (sometimes they request prices on 100+ different items) he uses VLOOKUP to find details (prices, qty in stock) from the exports automatically, instead of using his slow ERP.

    How about you guys? How did you use IF/SUMIF/Pivot Tables/VLOOKUP the last time you used it?
