That's not how Excel would normally work as I'm guessing you already know.
Is there any old data that had been deleted from these blank Cells?
Could you copy the List data & paste it 'Special Values' into a new worksheet & see if that sorts normally?
One other option is to copy & paste the list data into Notepad & the paste it back into Excel.
Otherwise, can you post your data so I can see why it may be doing this?
