Creating a custom dropdown list without using code or cell reference

I'm not sure where to post this, so please move it to the correct forum if necessary.

I have a combo box in a worksheet, linked to the cell directly underneath it. I want only a few specific items in the dropdown list, like "running", "closed","pending." I hope to achieve this without using named ranges, cell references, or VBA code, and just type the list into a property box (ListFillRange maybe?).

Can this be done? I remember stumbling upon an article somewhere about creating lists using separators, but couldn't find it any more.

You can do it with a data validation drop down, choose list and type in a comma delimited list
