    How to insert and use a checkbox?

    I add a checkbox - a form control in cell a1.
    On cell a2, I put =IF( A1, "Very True" , "Completely False" )

    This doesn't work
    What am I doing wrong?

    Have you linked the checkbox property to A1?

    Linked?
    Oh... I didn't know you had to do that.
    I tried reading this up and am unsure how you connect.
    The instructions said insert checkbox and then control click the other cell.
    Something else funny just happens

    Can you give some guidance?

    The state of the Checkbox is recorded in its linked cell

    Right click the Checkbox and select 'Format Control'. On the Control menu select either the Checked or Unchecked items and then select a linked cell. Doesn't have to be A1 although if the control is formatted with a fill colour to hide the cell underneath most people use the cell on which the control sits.

    looking better
    i now have a1 and b1 connected 🙂

    a1 has the check box
    now, if ticked shows TRUE in B1
    if unticked shows FALSE in B1

    but what I want is to be able to change this text to what I want instead of TRUE or FALSE?
    also, from another cell, i want to get the status of the checkbox ticked or unticked

    You have to choose a cell that the checkbox state of TRUE or FALSE will be written to. As Richard notes in post #4, even with your checkbox positioned over A1 you can still link the checkbox to A1. Then in B1, and/or anywhere else you wish, you can put your original formula from post #1 (except I made the A1 reference absolute):
    Formula: copy to clipboard
    Please Login or Register  to view this content.


    So in summary change the checkbox cell link back to A1 then enter the above formula in B1 or anywhere else you wish.
