copying text sheet1 to sheet2

Hi,
I have sheet1 and sheet2 workbook.
I placed this code in Sheet2 cell B1, =Sheet1!A1. What it does it copied the text whatever I have in sheet1 (A1).

Sheet1 (A1) is formatted to date e.g. 03/12/19 which it should show the same in Sheet2 in B1.

The problem is that when I set the format to "general" or "text" in Sheet2(B1) then it shows 43537 and not a date. I tried not to format B1 to a date format because Sheet1 column A1 thru A1000 will have a skip area where no date specified. I tried to set a date in B1 and I dragged it down and it showed 01/00/00 where the skip area from Sheet1.

What is the best formula to use instead of =Sheet1!A1

I want to show a value "0" in B1(sheet2) if there is no entry in A1(sheet1).
