Blank rows are being replaced even after deletion

    Hello Forum,

my blank rows in excel, when deleted are being replaced. the excel shows 1048576 rows. I have data only for 1500 rows. I colored the rows and deleted them. But it is at once replaced by the same number of blank rows. This slows down the excel ( shows a small scroll bar on the right). Please help. I work in a hospital and need access to my data which does not slow me down when patients are around.

when I copy the data into a new excel, it shows only the pasted data. But after some time, i see all the 1048576 rows again !. I want the excel to have only the rows with data.

    Welcome to the forum!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Re: Blank rows are being replaced even after deletion

Thank you AliGW for your reply
I have attached a temp copy of my file as zip folder. Although it has hardly any data, it is showing 2636 kb

the replacement of rows (and columns) happens even if I mark and delete and they show the max allowed for excel.
This has been a big problem. My other excel files do not do this. It happens only with this file.
After deleting sensitive data, I tried to delete the rows again on the one attached.
It still replaces the blank rows.

Any help will be much appreciated. thanks

    Hello AliGW
i think that there is some problem with the same file.
I ran a query on this file and now, it has stored the data as a excel table and it does not
let me add any more rows to it. Is there a way to convert the table back to ordinary rows as before.
when it was not a table, it was adding back the thousands of rows. But now it does not allow adding of any rows !. i save it as tab delimited file and then also it is showing the data as a table. Please see attached
temp3 as a zip file. Although there is no data is it showing a size of 11 mb.

I managed to delete the query and convert the one column that seemed to be a table to text and now the table problem is gone. ( excel query, messes up the file !) .Anyway, my initial problem remains that it is not letting me delete the 1000s of rows and columns.

Copy just what you need from this sheet to a new sheet - delete the problem sheet. Do NOT select all and copy!

In future, do not select the whole sheet and add masses of formatting.
