    Excel Formatting - Conditional formating

So I am preparing a stores trackers

So on the first column is the period of stores closure

On column side is expenses charged to it

Now if the stores closes in period 1 then the charges made in p02 should not be there

however, by mistake if it gets charged I need this to be highlighted as shown in attached file.

Now, I tried conditional formating saying
If d4>0 and right b4>d3 then highlight the figures. However not working

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi,

It's not at all clear (at least to me) what it is you're trying to achieve. In any case this is clearly a much simplified example and probably doesn't represent the size of your actual data. We often find that when we give an answer to what is a trivial non representative example when the solution is used with the real world data it doesn't work because of factors like string length and other stuff which is important but hasn't been mentioned.

Therefore upload your real workbook (or at least a cut down copy), and manually add the results you expect to see. Clearly identify which is original data and which are the results and in a note clearly explain how you have arrived at your results.

Re: Excel Formatting - Conditional formating

    Your output looks incorrect.

You've highlighted Closing Store P03 and Expense Charged in P03, OK that's fine.
But if that's the case why isn't Closing Store P01 and Expenses Charged in P01 highlighted ?

    Select the range to highlight.

    Conditional Formatting
    New Rule
    Use a formula to determine...

    Use either
    =AND(D4>0,$B4<=D$3)
    or
    =AND(D4>0,$B4<D$3)

depending on the comment I made above.

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

Just out of interest I was puzzled by your references to P01, P02 etc..

If the P is shorthand for Period does that mean these are actual dates, e.g a dd/mm/yyyy number, or are they a text reference to a store code?

    hi Special - K,

Can you please assist in understanding how I can drag the format down, Because it still select d4 every time.

What i need is d4 to be changed from d4 to d5 and so on and so forth.

    Regards

You dont need to drag it down, just select the entire area you want to highlight in one go, in this case C4:E9
