SUBTOTAL amounts paid to each vendor by name.

I imported a QB file into Excel. Column on left contains vendor names sorted alphabetically. Column on right contains Amounts paid to each vendor. So each vendor will have multiple amounts paid. I'm looking for way to subtotal (sum) all amounts paid to each vendor, bold the total and then give me a blank row after each subtotal. I could do this manually but it will take me for ever. I am an entry level Excel user (Office 365) and am new to this site.

    Hi and welcome,

you can automatically calculate subtotals and grand totals in a list for a column by using the Subtotal command: in Data menù click on Subtotal (it's on the right)

To insert a blank row, you could follow this instructions:

    https://www.excelarticles.com/excelb..._subtotal.html

    Hope it helps

First - welcome to the forum and note that we work for free (or at the most, reputation points) in this part of the forum

One way would be to use Excel's subtotal feature.
Select a cell in your range then on the Ribbon/: Data > Subtotal

    subtotals.png

Another option would be by formula. Something like the following:

    subtotals1.png

The formula in E2 and then copied down is:
    =SUMIF($A$2:$A$10, D2, $B$2:$B$10)

Let us know if either of these options is close to what you are looking for.

Hi Bill and welcome to the forum.

Can I suggest you upload a workbook and manually add the results you expect to see.
You may find you get an answer without needing to take this further.

If not, are you aware of the Commercial Services forum we have? There you can offer an amount for a bespoke solution.

Re: SUBTOTAL amounts paid to each vendor by name.

When I click Subtotal in the Data Tab I get an error message that says, " Excel cannot determine which row in your list or selection contains column labels, which are required for this command." But all of my columns have column names (labels) and the two relevant ones are Name and Amount. Suggestions?

    Hi Richard:

I have a ss that shows the exact results I am looking for. Can I upload that as an attachment. I'm not familiar with how to create a Workbook. I actually thought I was making this post in the Commercial Services section. I bought points.

Hi Ali- I thought I was placing my post in the Commercial Services section. Can you tell me how to post in the CS section and offer a fee so I don't violate the rules?

You are getting help here for free, so maybe you don’t need to. If you do go down that route, you will need to click on the commercial services link and purchase points, however you won’t then be allowed to keep this thread open. In addition you need to know that members who are able to help in commercial services are currently struggling to get money owed to them from the site’s owners, so some are reluctant to help there at present, and if you buy points, the money may not reach the person who helps you. In brief, you are better off staying here in the free section.

To upload a file click the 'Go Advanced' button at the foot of the post then look underneath the post area for the 'Manage attachments' option and take it from there.

The error message that you quote goes on to provide some (unusually ) useful help regarding likely causes. One thing in particular you might check is do you have a blank row after your headers? If so, delete it.

Failing that please upload your workbook using the steps provided above by Richard.

Let us know how you get on.
