    Conversion of Coordinates

    Hello friends,

I am again reaching out because I would need a little help. Obviously I already tried to solve the problem myself, however I am stuck and I am sure it's way easier for you guys.

So, my problem: I have coordinates (North/West - Swiss Cartesian coordinates) which through some steps and formulas are converted into Longitude and Latitude coordinates.

However, now I have the coordinates in Longitude and Latitude and I would like to convert them into North - West. I tried to re-arrange the formulas, however I am unable to solve it, for that reason I hope you can share your expertise.

Thanks so much in advance for your help! I really appreciate it.

Could you please attach the workbook in .xlsx format? It will not then throw an error when members try to open it.

This is readily available on the Ordnance Survey website:

Look at the tab for calculations from Easting/Northing to Log/Lat.

    Re: Conversion of Coordinates

    Hello AliGW,

Thanks so much for the quick reply and the link.
I've already found several coordinate converters between Swiss grid (CH1903) and WGS84, however since I would like to convert a whole batch of 500 coordinates they are not really useful. That is why I was trying to solve it with a calculation myself. I see that the conversion formula is not that easy.

The point about that workbook is that it contains everything you need to replicate the conversion algorithm in your own workbook.

    Re: Conversion of Coordinates

Yes, I got that, but it seems that it's a conversion from WGS84 (Long,Lat) to UTM (Northing, Easting) and not to Swiss Grid (CH1903), which is slightly different.

    Re: Conversion of Coordinates

    Good morning,

Just a quick update on my progress.

I found a source code and it helped me to re-produce the formula. It seems to work:
