How to show a table based on a dropdown selection

So lets say I have a cell in which the user has to select from a drop down menu a value from 1-10.
Based on this selection I want the user to get presented a fully formatted table with additional dropdown menu's

For example the user selects 2. He will be shown a table with 2 columns, and two rows showing in the first column Q1 and another drop down menu in the second column. And under that Q2 with a second drop down menu.
If he selects 3 this will be 3 columns and 3 rows etc.

As this is an example, it's fine that this would be hardcoded. 4 could give the same table as 2 or 5 might give just one addition question. I just want to know how I could change the presented table when a different entry is selected in the dropdown menu.

Finally I would like to know how to give information about the selection.

Let's say I selected 2 and the answer to Q1 is a name 'Arnold' I then would like in a different table to show information about the selection 'Arnold' (stuff like age, married yes/no, kids yes/no etc.)

If you know any way of doing this, please let me know.

So... I don't fully understand what you are asking. To be honest, I'm not 100% certain that this will help, or even be possible... but:

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? However, please give us an indication of the approximate number of rows of data you want the solution to work with (100, 1000, 100,000 or whatever). Please don't attach a picture of an Excel sheet (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. It does NOT have to be your real sheet - mock up a SAMPLE if you need to. But not 1000's of rows!!! It makes manual checking so tedious. Whatever you do... make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    2. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    3. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Sorry for not being able to explain it better, I included a mockup sheet. Hope it helps!

OK. I have to dash away for an hour or so. Take a look at this. I changed the data validation formula slightly. The rest SHOULD be self-evident. If not, I can explain a bit later.

Re: How to show a table based on a dropdown selection

Beautiful! It seems to be working like I want it to, except for two things:
    1) Whenever you lower the amount of people, it will keep the same amount of drop down menu's. Is there a way to not make this show up? I could just hide this 'system' and only show the parts I want to be shown in a different sheet, but I would prefer it to work all in the same sheet.
    2) the formatting stays the same. I would prefer when you select '4' only the 4 relevant rows are formatted (in this case, blue) this is just a minor cosmetic issue, so shouldn't be a big problem, but in case it has an easy solution I would prefer it over this.

But for now, a huge thanks! You really helped me a lot!

Dropdowns. Possibly. Might be a way. I'll get back... But the dds dont present choices when the column at the left is blank.

The coloring thing can be easily handled.

I'm on a bus now... and playing with my laptop isn't an option!!!

Not sure about the dropdown bit. However as stated, they won't offer any possibilities if the dark blue cell is blank...
