extract name breakdown error

Please help clean my errors...
My spreadsheet does fine until I get to the 9th name "De La Garza, Anthony"
My goal is to help a teacher make a seating chart with little work from her. She needs to be focused more on teaching the students.

See the attached spreadsheet to see my intentions. "ALL NAMES AND NUMBERS HAVE BEEN CHANGED, THESE ARE FICTIONAL STUDENTS"

Thank you all,
Jay

Re: extract name breakdown error

What exactly does this mean?

My spreadsheet does fine until I get to the 9th name "De La Garza, Anthony"
What is it not doing fine at that point? I cannot see that the spreadsheet is doing anything much at all - what exactly are you trying to achieve?

EDIT: Oh, I see now!

This in C3 copied down:

=TRIM(LEFT(SUBSTITUTE(MID(B3,FIND(",",B3)+2,99)," ",REPT(" ",99)),98))

Re: extract name breakdown error

That's perfect! How do I prevent that "#VALUE!" error from showing using the formula?

Re: extract name breakdown error

Wrap Ali's formula in iferror…

=iferror(TRIM(LEFT(SUBSTITUTE(MID(B3,FIND(",",B3)+2,99)," ",REPT(" ",99)),98)),"")
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
