    Change link question

Hi I have a master document with lots of formula's that links to another document that holds raw data for 2018. I want to make copy of the master document and link it to a different document i.e the raw data for 2019. Essentially I just want the master document to look at a different file for the values however if i try "change source" and select the 2019 document if comes up with reference error.

    Many thanks in advance

    Re: Change link question

Do you have the file path hard-coded into formulae? If so, you can do a find and replace.

Are you still really using Excel 2007? Sorry if I've asked before.

    Re: Change link question

Hi I just tried again and for some reason it worked this time without the reference error. I'm not sure what the difference is between pasting as a link and hard coding so my guess would be no?

Yea still on 2007 I have though about updating, I'm not paying for subscription tho.

Why not? I've never looked back. Great value if you have a whole two or more in your household. Better value than the standalone, anyway.

    Re: Change link question

Hi mostly because I started a 20k word dissertation and didn't want the update changing any formatting. As for subscription I just avoid subscriptions, especially when you can pick up office 2019 for around the £20 mark. Unfortunately a lot of companies are going down the subscription route such as adobe as it's the best way to make money .

    Re: Change link question

Mmm ... I thought the same for a long time, but I am of the converted. It's a no-brainer for me with the number of devices we have between us at home and with a daughter about to go off to uni.

Anyway, if that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED.
