Using Name Manager I cannot paste into Refer to Box. Worked before!

I have a rather complicated formula that I need to use in the "refer to" part of a name in the Name Manager. I create the name then after coping the text (formula) I select the refer to box and select paste and it will not paste. I used this ability on office 2010 does it not work in office 2016? If so is there another way to enter a formula into the "refer to" box without typing in the whole formula by hand?

    Hi Bobbbo,

It sounds like you are in the middle of entering a formula or a userform is showing or your VBA is active. You copy the formula string to the Windows Clipboard first. Then escape back to where editing is allowed. Then open the Names Manager and build that formula using Ctrl+C from the Windows clipboard.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

I am really confused as to what you are stating. I copy the formula by selecting the formula the Ctrl+C then I go to the Name Manager and in the refer to box I put the curser and select Ctrl+V and it will not paste. How is the windows clipboard different from what I am doing. And Yes there is VBA code in the workbook but a macro is not running. and what is a "userform is showing"

Re: Using Name Manager I cannot paste into Refer to Box. Worked before!

Okay I was able to build a workbook with a simple formula that I could paste into the name manager. The formula is =IF(A1=5,"five","not five") in cell C2. I then put the formula that is far more complex in C3 and I cannot copy and paste it into the refer to box in the name manager. As I stated before I was able to do this some time back, but not now. Maybe there is something in the formula that is causing the problem??
