Transfer excel data from a pivot table to a calendar

Hello everyone,

I have a list of employees that have called out in the month of May by shift. I'd like to have the data from my excel workbook show up on a calendar so for example if the date is May 7th, the calendar would show 2 employees called out on the first shift, 1 employee on the third shift and 5 employees on the third shift. I believe using a pivot table is the best way to do this but if there's a different route, I am open to using that too.

It may be easier to understand the request if we could see a manually produced example of some of the calendar.
That said perhaps the pivot table in the attached file will help.
Date is placed in the Columns area, Shift is placed in both the Rows and Values (Count of) area.
