Custom formatting of numbers with asterisks

    Hello

I'd like to apply custom formatting like 0,?????;-0,????? to some hundreds of cells, but there are a few of the numbers inside having asterisk mark [like 143,25*], which is important to stay there. Is there any way of doing this?

I was thinking about adding it manualy as a text [0,????"*" or something], but it creates such a wide space between a number and the sign I can't accept [like 2,45 * and the comma is no longer aligned with other ones in this collumn].

I need those asterisks to be visible, but I could live with no way of doing maths on them [like using some conversion to text thing, but for now I have no idea how to do it properly]. If anyone has anything to say on this, please do so.

I can't think of a custom or conditional formatting solution for this. You could probably write an excel equation (using some TEXT and IF functions) to output what you need (in a separate column) or a macro to update your cells.

Re: Custom formatting of numbers with asterisks

    Well, thanks for an answer.

Actually I kind of have some sort of set of rules for this now [one default number formatting for all the table and three conditional formatting rules*] but still it doesn't work well enough and requires some preparation of every table. An inconceivable problem! - aligning commas in Excel.

*I found some rules for numbers with * occurrence [ah, using asterisk in a post is so different now..]
