Mail Merge Data from excel into word - Date issue

Hi All,

I am merging data from excel to word that includes dates. However, once transferred into word it loses its format.

I would like the data to read for example: 17 September 2020 and in another cell, 17/09/2020.

How can I format the date in excel so that the date transfers into word exactly the same as seen in excel, please?

you want to change date formats for different cells in the excel sheet? of course you can do that. just change the properties for each individual cell.

if you're asking how to get MULTIPLE date formats into a PLACEHOLDER in the merged ms word document, I seriously doubt it. The reason => Placeholder field names in a mail merge are intended to pull from ONE place only. for instance, a cell in excel or a field name in ms access.

sorry for being unclear, when I do a mail merge in excel to word, the date transferred into word doesn't keep the same format. I want the date to go in to word in the same format as noted in excel.

I could point you to valuable information but that would be against Forum Rules as it is on "competing" forums...
Do a search on the Net for G Mayor, or Charles Kenyon they have lots of helpful information and how-to's
I would also suggest you ask a Mod to move your thread to the MsWord forum to attract some specialist attention ( like macropod)
You can do this by clicking " report post" on your first post and anter your request ( It's not the official way but it works :-) )

Try changing your date in Excel to a Text date and then merge it into your Word document
