Can you set up drop down list, keeping pre existing data?

Can you set up drop down list,l keeping pre existing data? My problem having 9000 rows of pre existing data without having had validation rules. If i set a dropdown List will this affect the current data if all 5 options is existing within the current data.

    Re: Dropdown Lust

Made me laugh - but you can change it. It’s not a great title, anyway, so whilst you are at it, make it more descriptive, please .

Re: Can you set up drop down list, keeping pre existing data?

There is nothing magical about a drop down (data validation), it acts in the exact same way as if you had entered the data manually, and excel formulas only see the data in the cell as if it had been entered manually.

The only real advantages of using a DD is that it saves typing, avoids typos/spelling mistakes, restricts entry to what you specify, and maybe saves a bit of time in entering data.
Other than that, no difference to manual entry

So, that said, it should not affect existing data, as long as you dont try and edit any of that data
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
