count the occurrences in another column (i.e. dollars bid) from the two bidders

I have two columns of data - the individual who bid a job and the amount of dollars the bid was. I'm trying to count who bids the most jobs and who bids the most dollars. I assume COUNTIF will figure out the quantity of bids by a person if I can figure out that formula but how do you count the occurrences in another column (i.e. dollars bid) from the two bidders (in this case Mike and Chris)? Any help is appreciated - and my apologies for a basic question but I did do some searching and feel like I'm missing minor issues with my formulas because they aren't working.

    Re: My Apologies

It would be useful to see a sample spreadsheet - see the yellow banner at top of thread
Also , if you take a look at the rules, you should edit the thread title

    Re: Formula Help

if you can do the countif, do the same with a sumif to find the values
    https://exceljet.net/excel-functions...sumif-function

Or just do a pivot table person as the row, and the values as count of dollars, and sum of dollars
    https://exceljet.net/excel-pivot-tables

An attachment as per the yellow banner would make it easier to say why the formula are not working, and you will be asked to change the title of the post as if i wanted to use your answer after a google search my apologies would ot be a term I looked for!

But welcome as I see it if your first post and the important thing is that we are all here to learn, and you are trying to do that so no need to apologize!

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

We would very much like to help you with your query, however the thread title does not really convey what your request is about. Tell us what you are trying to do, not how you think it should be done.

Please take a moment to amend your thread title. Make sure that the title properly explains your request. Your title should be explicit and not be generic (this includes function names used without an indication of what you are trying to achieve).

Please see Forum Rule #1 about proper thread titles and adjust accordingly. To edit the thread title, open the original post to edit and then click on Go Advanced (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

(Note: this change is not optional. As you are new, I have done it for you today, but please take note as we expect you to do this properly yourself in future.)
