Does anyone know if accessing outlook items from excel macro work with outlook closed?

So i got a beta test working of a macro that updates a spreadsheet with email details from specific folder..

Since i ran it while my outlook was already open and all messages available, just wanted to ask if anyone has had issues running something similar while your outlook is closed? Any issues when emails are not yet updated in your mailbox?

we use office 365, and when we open our outlook client on our pc's, it takes a few seconds or minutes for our folders to be updated.

So just looking for some feedback from anyone that may already be using outlook and excel together in a macro and what results they have seen?

Should i account for the updating time before running the macro?
Should i instruct the users to make sure they have the client open and all updated before running the macro?

Just looking for what to expect.

This does sound like a very generic answer, but it did workout for me using these steps:
    • Open Excel and press Alt+F11 keys, to open the Editor.
    • In your VBA editor, find the Tools option from the top menu and choose References….
    • In the References dialog box, find Microsoft Outlook 12.0 Object Library, check the option and click OK.

Ok, just to clear up what im asking.. like the subject states and the 2nd statement in my original post..

We use Office365, when i open outlook in the mornings, the only emails available right then are anything from the last time i opened the client. A few seconds after opening the client, then you see that each folder is being "updated".

So since the emails im looking for in the excel macro are not always sent at the same time of day, in some cases not everyday. I cant realistically test that scenario since i dont know ahead of opening the client if they exists, just wanting to know if anyone has worked with excel macro that accesses outlook emails and were you able to access them without opening the client?
