    Keyboard shortcuts

I use keyboard shortcuts a lot and wanted to know how to find the last key of a shortcut.

Let's say I copy a cell and want to paste the formulas. I would go: Ctrl + Alt + V and then I am presented with the open menu. I know that if I then hit F, it will select the right option. But is there any way to ask this menu to tell me which key to press rather than memorising it?

I know that if I hit tab and use the up and down arrow keys it works, but is there a way of asking Excel to tell me what to do, similar to what happens when I first press Alt? The little icons that come up which tell me what to press are really useful.

(I also know that if I go Alt + H + V, it shows me which keys correspond to what but I can never for the life of me remember what the pictures mean.)

In every dialogue box or menu in Excel with text, you'll see that one of the letters of one of the words is underlined. That's the letter you need to press. So in your example of Ctrl-Alt-V (which opens the Paste Special dialogue box), you'll see 'Formulas' has the F underlined, which is why you press the F, as you noted. If you wanted to paste columns widths instead, look at that option and you'll see it as 'Column widths' with the w underlined, so you press w to select that.

    Does that help?

I recently started a new job so am a bit busy and may not reply quickly. Sorry - it's not personal - I will reply eventually.
If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

That is amazing, thank you! I had no idea that was a feature of Excel. So useful! You have solved what seems like years of frustration
