Row count when scrolling rows to delete

Consolidating large data sets of weekly records into yearly totals involves highlighting then scrolling down 2-4pages of rows to highlight and then delete. Hit n miss suddenly switches to insert a row count and stops highlight. After initiating row highlighting, tried scrolling in different places but seems to be a random effect, not directly related to the numbers of rows highlighted.

    Welcome to the forum.

Why do you need to delete the data? Consolidation usually involves summarising and/or archiving, but not deleting.

It looks as if only those rows that have values in column J are being saved.
Seems like it would be easier to filter so as to leave only those rows that have values in column J.
Perhaps we would be in a better position to help if we had a sample to work with (instructions are in the "HOW TO ATTACH YOUR SAMPLE WORKBOOK" banner at the top of the page).

Re: Row count when scrolling rows to delete

No column J is just where I have the sum formula for each species year count which I Cntrl drag down to the next year - hence all those filled cells in J.
The problem is trying to highlight all the rows of the same year, same species when (for example) cell B754 pops up and I can no longer highlight as Excel is doing something different.
I have finished that particular Sheet and will have to prepare the data for the next Sheet that I have to do. So am not able to quickly offer a sample. Dont ask! Consolidate site names and co-ordinates then give them OS Grid references.

So two sheets, initial and, second sheet, when Excel performs correctly the required outcome, except I have several scrolling pages of same species year data to delete, when Excel goes off to do something else.

Does "when (for example) cell B754 pops up"..."Excel is doing something different" mean that Excel is changing some of the values in column B or that there are errors in the data?
Also on the EndData sheet in the sample file, I don't understand why only the 2004 data is grouped and not the 2002 and 2006 data also.

Re: Row count when scrolling rows to delete

No, not changing values but changing the highlighted rows frame as I scroll down, shows that total 'Row?' count in cell B754, and stops highlighting the rows as I continue to scroll down. But behaviour is intermittent and I couldnt find a way to use or avoid it consistently. Perplexed. Dont know what it is doing and how I am supposed to respond.
Why because it is just a sample to show you what I am trying to achieve for the Year 2004 compared to other years, which with the full data I would be doing in turn.
