    Conditional Formatting & Splitting Cell

    Hi,

I have sample data in the attached workbook in which the % growth rates for a number of products are compared at the latest month-end (31/03/2021) to the data a month ago (column C) and 3 months ago (column B)

I would like to conditionally shade the cell in column D for each product according to its relationship to its results at in column B and in column C.

More specifically I would like to shade the right hand half of the cell in column D in red if the sign of the value in column C is positive and the sign of the value in column D is negative, or blue if the sign of the value in column C is negative and the sign of the value in column D is positive.

At the same time I would like to shade the left hand half of the cell in column D in red if the sign of the value in column B is positive and the sign of the value in column D is negative, or blue if the sign of the value in column B is negative and the sign of the value in column D is positive.

There will be no shading on the right hand side of the cell in column D if the sign of the value in cell D is the same as it is in column C and no shading on the left hand side of the cell in column D if the sign of the value in cell D is the same as it is in column B.

To clarify further, using the data as I sent as an example:

    D2: no shading
D3: both halves of the cell shaded blue
D4: left half of the cell shaded blue; right half of cell not shaded
    D5: no shading
D6: both halves of the cell shaded red
D7: left half of cell shaded red; right half of the cell not shaded
D8: left half of cell not shaded; right half of the cell shaded red
D9: left half of cell not shaded; right half of the cell shaded blue

Is this possible? If so, can someone please tell me how to do it.

    Thanks!

straight off the mark.. you can not do half/half conditional formatting colours of cells.

you can, however, do a pattern fill of the entire cell.

That's not strictly true. You can set gradient fills using two colours, BUT you would need a rule for every possible colour combination.
