Formula to slice part of a column

    Exclamation Formula to slice part of a column

    Hi All,

    I have a excel sheets which pulls in data however i need to select part of the info in one column.

    For example if it says Apple - Pear - i need to only take out Pear into a separate column.

    Is this possible?

    Welcome to the forum.

    One example is NEVER enough, but based on it alone:

    =TRIM(MID(A1,FIND("-",A1)+1,99))

    If you want to split the column, rather than pulling data out, then use Text to Columns with "-" as the delimiter,

    Please see the yellow banner at top of the page on how to attach a (representative) sample workbook (with expected results)

    Ah that worked perectly thank you.
    Sorry i know the exmaple wasnt great.

    If i was to say select the first part so Apples this time.. would i just need to tweak the same formula.

    Eg Apple - Pear
    to
    Apple

    Like this:

    =TRIM(LEFT(A1,FIND("-",A1)-1))
