    3 axis on a pivot chart ?

I have found a number of tutorials which show the method for creating a 3 axis graph.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpR8QvC6pAA

I've tried this and it works, but for some reason when I try to do this method using a pivot chart instead of the regular chart, excel won't let me erase 2 of the 3 axis on the duplicate pivot chart. I'll try and erase one and it just redraws it back in a different color. Maybe pivot table axis can't be deleted in the same way as a normal chart ?

    Is there a way to overlap a third axis ( 2nd y axis ) onto a pivot table ?

    Cheers
    Corey

Re: 3 axis on a pivot chart ?

Jon Peltier goes over the differences between regular charts and pivot charts here: https://peltiertech.com/regular-char...-pivot-tables/ Note that one limitation of a pivot chart is that it must show all of the data in the pivot table. As you've discovered, you cannot permanently delete any data series.

As an expert, Jon really does not like adding multiple axes to a chart. He much prefers panel charts (see this tutorial: https://peltiertech.com/regular-char...-pivot-tables/ ). As explained in the first tutorial, though, this will never be a pivot chart, so you will also need the first tutorial for creating regular charts from pivot data.

It seems that most people end up not really liking techniques that overlap two duplicate charts. The precision needed to place them so they appear to be one chart makes them difficult to maintain in the long term. Sometimes when the data changes, they don't overlap correctly, and one is forced to adjust the two charts all over again.

If I were to do a 3 axis chart, I would use a helper column to scale the 3rd data series so it fits on one of the two existing axes, then add a dummy series to represent the 3rd axis that is scaled correctly (very similar to what Jon did in the panel chart tutorial to create the axes for the three panels). This still requires making a regular chart rather than a pivot chart, but I expect it will be a lot easier to maintain over time.

Let us know how you would like to proceed, and we'll help as best we can.
