retain value after subtracting two cells with the if statement

I want to subtract L4 from C4 when a "x" is in E4 and want to keep the value is C4 so when new data is entered, it will subtract from the current value in C4.

Suggest you provide a sample workbook with 6-8 records of your source data and then provide us with what your mocked up solution will look like for those records.

Have you checked the possible use of "Copy" and "Paste Special" where you can paste a value to a target value and add "Opperations" i.e. "Add", "Subtract", "Multiply" and "Divide"
