    Arranging a table

    Hello,

I would like to arrange this table so it shows the Material with the earliest date first, but all lines for this specific Materiel. Then the next earliest Material and all lines for this Material.

    TABLE BEFORE ARRANGING
    Schedule Date Material
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-02-2022 ABC
    01-02-2022 A123
    01-02-2022 A123
    01-02-2022 A123
    01-03-2022 ABC
    01-03-2022 ABC
    01-03-2022 A123
    01-03-2022 A123
    01-03-2022 A123

    TABLE AFTER ARRANGING:
    Schedule Date Material
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-02-2022 ABC
    01-03-2022 ABC
    01-03-2022 ABC
    01-02-2022 A123
    01-02-2022 A123
    01-02-2022 A123
    01-03-2022 A123
    01-03-2022 A123
    01-03-2022 A123

Is there anyway to do this in Excel? I hope it makes sense.

    Thanks in advance,

    BR,
    Mads

    Re: Arranging a table

    Welcome to the forum.

Data | Sort - set the first sort column as the material column (ascending) and then on the date column (ascending).

    Re: Arranging a table

    Hi Ali,

Thank you and thankk you for the fast reply.

If I sort by Material first I will get this table:
    Schedule date Material
    01-02-2022 A123
    01-02-2022 A123
    01-02-2022 A123
    01-03-2022 A123
    01-03-2022 A123
    01-03-2022 A123
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-01-2022 ABC
    01-02-2022 ABC
    01-03-2022 ABC
    01-03-2022 ABC

This is not what I need - I need the table to show the Material with the earliest data first, but also show all other rows with that same Material in the following rows. Then the material with the second earliest date and so on.

Maybe another example with a bit more data will help:

    This table:
    Date Material
    12-08-2022 A
    07-10-2022 B
    22-12-2022 C
    12-08-2022 A
    21-11-2022 B
    13-08-2022 C
    21-10-2022 A
    14-04-2023 B
    01-02-2024 C
    01-03-2024 A
    01-04-2024 B
    01-05-2024 C
    01-06-2024 A
    01-07-2024 B
    13-08-2022 C
    02-12-2022 A
    24-07-2023 B

    Needs to show this:
    Date Material
    12-08-2022 A
    12-08-2022 A
    21-10-2022 A
    02-12-2022 A
    01-03-2024 A
    01-06-2024 A
    13-08-2022 C
    13-08-2022 C
    22-12-2022 C
    01-02-2024 C
    01-05-2024 C
    07-10-2022 B
    21-11-2022 B
    14-04-2023 B
    24-07-2023 B
    01-04-2024 B
    01-07-2024 B

So the table shows A first because is has 12/8-2022 as date which is the earliest date. Then it shows all A's below. After this comes C, because it has 13/8-2022 which is the second earliest date. And then all C'. Lastly B because it has the thirds earliest date 7/10-2022.

What is your current microsoft Office version (not your Windows version). Please amend your profile to reflect this.

One possibility is to create a help column with the formula
Please Login or Register to view this content.
Afterwards you can sort the table by the help column and within that by the column with the date.
    See attachment.
