Sort 1 list in the same order as a 2nd list.

    Hello,

I have two lists coming from two seperate files. I am trying to sort "List 2" in the same order as "List 1". List 1 is fixed and list 2 is varying and recieved in a new file weekly. It would be as simple as a Vlookup but list 2 contains multiple itterations of the items in list 1 and would like all itterations to be shown. So the primary criteria for sort is to by name according to List 1 and 2nd criteria is to sort by date. The attached file shows List 1, List 2, and what i would like the final product to be.

    Hi danno,

You are looking for a custom sort list import. Read about it at:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...b-ba213ec2fd61

I think you will need to delete old lists and import the one you want currently each week.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

To get to the "Import List" dialog you need to do the following:
Click on File - Options - Advanced - Scroll down to a section called General and click on a button called "Edit Custom Lists". This will bring up the Dialog Box that includes the "Import" field. Use this to import your list one. Then sort your list 2 using this new Custom Sort List.

Delete the old custom list each week and import a new one.

Hope that makes sense. I agree that this custom sort is pretty deep into the Excel functions.. But it is there!!
