Display content of a dropdown list based on the data selected in another cell

    Hi folks

I would really appreciate some help.

I would like to select a Managers name in one cell and depending on which one is chosen, it would display his/her team as a list from a dropdown from which you could then choose an employee.

I've attached a file - is this possible?

I have highlighted the cell in red (column C) I would like to see a list of team members in depending on which manager is selected (column B)

    Escalations Log.xlsx

    Thank you in advance

Re: Display content of a dropdown list based on the data selected in another cell

I have used 'structured tables' for both the main input page and the data table managers/teams - the advantage of a 'structured table' is its ability to self maintain - any formula/formatting/data validation expands/contracts dynamically as you add/delete data, there is no need for you to constantly alter range sizes in any table related events.
There is a little bit of 'magic' taking place in the 'name manager' - firstly the manager names are taken from the header row of the table (this eliminates the separate list) - with using this method we can now associate a table column with its header and find the column index (these are the two additional items in the name manager) that determine which secondary list is added to the 'Team' validation.
To keep uniformity I would encourage you to use added individual 'structured tables' to populate your other validation dropdowns.
You will notice a 'fullstop' has been added to your first validation list - to make the table expand dynamically (instead of inserting rows) simply put a 'fullstop' in 'A3' tab to 'B3' and back to 'A3'.

    Torachan,

Mission statement; Promote the use of Tables, Outlaw the use of 'merged cells' and 'RowSource'.

Wow, that's amazing - it works perfectly, thank you very much!

    Also for the explanation.

I can't profess to fully understand it but I'm reading up to expand on what you've explained so I can use in any future cases.

    Your help is much appreciated.
