this seems as though it should be easy:
my conditional format is:
if value in A1 is less then value in B1, colour it Yellow
How can do i copy that down for 2, 3, 4????
anytime i format paint it, the reference cell remains B1

Figured it out...
Conditional format, Cell value less than, formula, colour:
=($B1:$B30)
this is assuming 30 rows of course. this would then be format paintable Left/Right but would always reference $B.
Always good to work it out for yourself . Thanks for sharing your solution.
Just for information, you don't need the brackets.
