Is it possible to add a gradient fill to the main colour pallette?

    Hello all,

I've been trying to find out if it's possible to add a gradient fill option to the default colour pallette in Excel.

So instead of having to go to Format Cells - Fill - Fill Effects to add the gradient you instead have it on the regular fill colour pallette.

We're setting up a centralised Excel sheet and wanted to make it quick and easy for users to choose the applicable gradient fills.

So far I've not found anywhere that shows if this is possible.

Thanks in advance. Appreciate any advice.

Cool Re: Is it possible to add a gradient fill to the main colour pallette?

No, it is not possible to add a gradient fill to the main color palette in Excel. The main color palette in Excel consists of a set of solid colors that you can use to format your worksheets, charts, and other elements.

However, you can apply a gradient fill to a cell or a range of cells in Excel by using the "Fill" feature. Here are the steps to do so:
    • Select the cell or range of cells that you want to apply the gradient fill to.
    • Click on the "Fill" button in the "Home" tab of the ribbon.
    • In the "Fill" menu, select "Gradient Fill".
    • Choose the type of gradient fill you want to apply, such as linear or radial.
    • Select the colors you want to use for the gradient by clicking on the color stops and adjusting the colors in the color picker.
    • Adjust the direction and angle of the gradient as desired.
    • Click "OK" to apply the gradient fill to the selected cells.

Keep in mind that this will not add the gradient fill to the main color palette, but it will allow you to use a gradient fill on your worksheet.

    Thanks Sandy,

I thought that may be the case. I wanted to add it to the pallette so that users could add a gradient with one click, as it would have been used ad-hoc around the entire sheet.

But no worries. Apprecient the confirmation.
