Embed PDF or links to PDF in other folder?

I have an excel file of our church music (~3,000 rows). Eventually all these pieces of music will be scanned as PDFs in a separate file folder. If I embed each song's pdf in the row with the song's information will it slow the file eventually? Would links to the external PDF file be better? Is there a better way than embedding or linking? I have put some PDFs into the file, and the only think I have noticed so far is that the file will not auto-save now; I have to save it manually each time before closing. Any help appreciated!
