    data from other sheet/file

Hello, i need to do basically this task. From fileA, fetch through a dropdown or whatever else if better, data from fileB
I can do that, bu to me it is not nice, as i need to have both open..so i might copy this data to fetch from withen the same file A, if there are not other way to do

Now this is the hardest part
The hardest is how to fetch from mmultiple colon
I made an exmaple..data are accounting type, but to make it simplier i'll use other things
lets say in the fileB, the source of data i have
    COlumnA ColumnB
    color red
    black
    .......
    material concret
    wood
    ........

    and so on

Is it possible to have that when choosing data with dropdown menu, first i queryt from columnA, and then i can choose the element from columnB..it's like a "double fetch"
at the end, in my FileA, i want on a column the data from ColumnA and on next column data from ColumnB

    Is it possible?

i have attached the file, i hav eplaced data from filbe in Filea, they are in SABOTINO sheet
I should work in IMPORTI NEGATIVI sheet, and for each row i should place in column E the value fetched from "CONTO" in SABOTINO, and in column F the value fetched from "SOTTOCONTO" in SABOTINO
    thank you

    De Felice 27-7-23.xlsx plain example
De Felice 27-7-23.xlsx with manually added value in column E and F

    Welcome to the forum.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook (yellow banner: HOW TO ATTACH YOUR SAMPLE WORKBOOK). Screenshots are of little practical use as we cannot manipulate them.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

Where in the workbook have you shown what you want? You need to mock up manually a few rows of sample data as you want to see it.

You need to post again to the thread when you add details or attachments - there are no notifications to members that your post has changed.

I have looked and I do not understand where the data in E and F is coming from.

You need to explain in more detail.

i think it is clear enough..i copy form main post

I should work in IMPORTI NEGATIVI sheet, and for each row i should place in column E the value fetched from "CONTO" in SABOTINO, and in column F the value fetched from "SOTTOCONTO" in SABOTINO
SABOTINO is another sheet of the file

this is the file with example

    thank you

Well, if you think it's clear enough, that's fine, but I don't and I am the one OFFERING the help, not asking for it.

I have read your post and looked at the attachment - I do not need you to repeat things. Repeating them is like speaking a bit louder - it doesn't make anything any clearer.

Never mind - I'll leave it to someone else. Good luck!

    Re: data from other sheet/file

I'll rephrase it for clarity: what do the values in E and F match with in A, B, C and D? What's the link with the data in CONTO and SOTTOCONTO? I cannot see what to use to make the lookup link. How have you made the connection?

    Re: data from other sheet/file

    there is no a real connection between the value a b c d and e and f
Each row contain the detail of a bank payment. In E and F i need to choose a valure from CONTO and SOTTCONTO in SABOTINO, that describe the reason of that movement
In CONTO there is the genral argument, for example
    13105000 - Mobili e arredi (furnitureand decor)
then i choose the exact reson from SOTTOCNTO
    for example
101220 001 - Piante da arredamento (plant for decor)

so in one of the record i have to specify the reason of that movement, using those codes and description that comes from the lists CONTO and SOTTOCONTO

    is it clearer now?

    Re: data from other sheet/file

    No.

HOW did you make the choice? When you choose the values, what are you thinking? What's the logic?

Without understanding the thought process, we can't write a formula for Excel to use.

Because it's obvious to you, you are missing out crucial information for someone like me who is NOT familiar with your data.

This is your last chance to explain it to me - I am running short of time now.

    Re: data from other sheet/file

you don't have to look after the logic..that's ther operator that read the NOTE of the bank movement and, understanding what kind of transaction is, will choose the proper CONTO and SOTTOCONTO
I did not ask for automate this, only how to fetch data in the way i have explained
That sheet could even have only E and F..as all i have asked is how to make that query with data from another sheet

Sorry - I do not understand at all what you are asking us to do.

    I'm out, I'm afraid.

Is it a drop-down list you want?

    Sabotino - H1:

    =UNIQUE(A2:A250)

    Importi negativi - E1:

    Data Validation list: =sabotino!$H$1#

Did you look at the attachment?

I tried to UNDERSTAND your posts. I DID read them - carefully - but I am struggling to UNDERSTAND what you are asking for.

But you aksed for a drop-down. In the attachment, I have shown you how to create a drop-down. What is wrong with it? The list feeding the drop-down can refer to another worksheet or workbook.

    You said this:

I can do that, bu to me it is not nice, as i need to have both open..so i might copy this data to fetch from withen the same file A, if there are not other way to do
In my example, there is a formula: =UNIQUE(A2:A250)

This can refer to data on another worksheet or in another workbook. I don't believe the other workbook needs to be open. Did you actually try it?

Your responses are not very illuminating.

    Re: data from other sheet/file

Nobody else has chipped in yet, so you might as well TRY to work with me.

it is not what i have asked.
So if you don't want a drop-down that is populated from a list generated from another workbook, what exactly DO you want? Try explaining again.

What does this mean, if it does not mean that you want to get the list from a closed workbook:

I can do that, bu to me it is not nice, as i need to have both open..so i might copy this data to fetch from withen the same file A, if there are not other way to do
