Unhappy Table filter with different value in cell

    Hello everyone,

I'm new here and hoping for some assistance. I have a table of items for a store that are categorized with three different tags. Some items have 2 or 3 tags based on the products. I need help setting up a drop-down menu in an Excel sheet to filter the tags based on the selection and include it in the filtering. For example, if I choose tag 1 in the drop-down, I want to see items that have tag 1, as well as items with tag 1 and tag 2 or tag 1 and tag 3. There is also a slicer in place that needs to be functional.

I really appreciate your help. I'm honestly getting confused trying to make it work and can't figure it out. I have attached the sample documents for reference.

You joined in 2013, so not new, really, but I know what you mean

Are you still using Excel 2010? If not, then please update your profile.

The drop-down is feasible, but you won't be able to have a slicer do what you want without helper columns, which would defeat the purpose.

Here is a possible way to use a slicer.
Add a column (J) which may be hidden and which is populated using: =ISNUMBER(SEARCH(L$1,I3))
The Tag Filter slicer has two values (True/False) by which the user can choose whether or not to apply the filter.
