    Timestamp formatting

I have a database of manufacturing data that I have multiple methods of pulling data from. These different methods are not interchangeable and need to be used at different times. One method exports as .csv, and another method exports as .xls. The problem I am having is with the formatting of the timestamps of the .xls worksheet. In the .xls, the timestamp is exported in a format that is not recognized by excel (as shown when trying to sort, it will say A to Z instead of Oldest to Newest). However, by simply clicking in the cell and hitting enter, I can change the cell into a format that excel recognizes as a time. This is not feasible for 40,000+ points per day. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could quickly reformat the whole column? Highlighting the whole column and using the number tab does not work correctly.Example.xlsx

    Administrative Note:

Is your forum profile showing the Excel PRODUCT that you need this to work for?

Members will tailor the solutions they offer to the Office PRODUCT (Excel, NOT Windows) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date in this respect. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File | Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your product is for Mac, please also state this.

The three most recent Excel products are Excel 2019, Excel 2021 and MS365 - if you are using MS365, please give this name along with the version number in your profile (e.g. MS365 Version 2306). This is in the About Excel section further down the Account page.

    Thanks.

    Re: Timestamp formatting

    Method 1
    Select the column
Go to the Ribbon: Data > Data Tools > Text To Columns
    Select Fixed Width, click Next
Drag the vertical line to a point where it is past the last character of your time data
    Click Finish

    Method 2
    Type 0 in any cell
    Copy that cell
Select the column having the date/time data
Click Paste > Paste Special and select Add.
    Click OK.
Apply desired formatting to the data (you have m/d/yyyy h:mm in the one you already did)
