    General Formula Help - Thanks!

    Hi,

My original post was too confusing . . .

Hopefully this will be more straight forward.

See sample sheet: in Row 4, I need 1 additional staff member per every $1,000 increase in sales.

Sales in row 2 is cumulative month over month, year over year. The answer in Row 4 should not be cumulative, 1 additional for each threshold met.

    Any thoughts?

    Re: If Formula Help

A sample sheet would help here, and possibly will enable a quicker and more accurate solution for you.

The forum does allow for spreadsheets to be uploaded direct to the forum -

Please see the Yellow Banner at the top of the page explaining how to attach a sample spreadsheet

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

Here are the instructions, found at the top of the page again
Post a small Excel sheet (not a picture) showing realistic & representative sample data WITHOUT confidential information (10-20 rows, not thousands...) and some manually calculated results. For a new thread (1st post), scroll to Manage Attachments, otherwise scroll down to GO ADVANCED, click, and then scroll down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS and click again. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    Re: If Formula Help

I added a sample sheet in original post

So in B4, C4 . . . I need a formula to add a 1 person when 1 million, 2 million etc is reached when adding the cumulative month sales.

    Re: If Formula Help

    you dont give expected results
    so guessing
    =INT(SUM($B$2:B2)/1000000)

is this what you need to show ?

Kind of, its just not cumulative, so a 1 in April, 1 in May, 0 in June, 1 in July, 0 in Aug, 1 in Sept

    Re: If Formula Help

not sure this is a good solution, i'm sure there are better and this may fall over , hopefully other members will read and provide a more robust solution
BUT while i see if a better solution is available how about

    =IF(INT(SUM($B$2:B2)/1000000)=INT(SUM($A$2:A2)/1000000),0,1)

Can I close this one and start a new one in Excel General. I think it would do better there and the current suggestion didn't work?

No, but I will move this thread to the General section. You don’t open new threads just because a suggestion doesn’t work: you explain what’s nit working for you and wait for another suggestion.

    Re: If Formula Help

I put in a revised Sample sheet with the exact spacing between the years (8 columns in between). And the cumulation is year after year as well. This might help

    Re: If Formula Help

so the cumulative total for that example is 30,000 and so have not reached 1,000,000 hence 0

you have not added the results expected .....

so sorry, i'm not following now

    Re: If Formula Help

Let's try this from scratch at a different angle. Row 2 is now the cumulative sales number, month over month and year over year. For every increase in $1,000 in sales, I need a 1 in row 4.

    Re: If Formula Help

ok, so now its a 1,000 and not 1,000,000 and the sales are shown cumulative - so different to original post

you want to show a 1 in Sept and then a 1 dec OR what do you want to show ???

can you add the expected results in your example

Note, i'm in UK and may not reply , after today, until possibly Thursday... but some personal events may be away longer ....

Yes, I updated the original post to try to solve at a different angle

Yes, it per $1000, and I believe it would be a 1 in column L and then column V and so on

i'm assuming you nolonger require assistance here
I notice the new spreadsheet v2 - the values have spaces at the end and $ - so text and Not a number - is that the real data

also columns have gaps with no data - again is that representative of the real data

you can see in my signature on the first post of mine , how to mark solved

No, I am still trying to get an auto formula for my issue. If there is anyone on the forum that has any suggestions.

I have not had any problems on this forum before, but for some reason I am getting reprimanded left and right. I am in no way trying to break the rules, just trying to make an original post that I discovered was too confusing to something more manageable.

Would still love help from anyone that may have an answer! Many thanks!

Re: General Formula Help - Thanks!

I fixed the numbers - now formatted as number. I wanted the columns between years because that is how the real sheet is formatted.

I'm sorry if it seems like we're making this difficult for you but you could have avoided the reprimands if you had read our rules. There aren't many, they are simple, and they are all important.

We have a rule against duplicating threads, and we also have a rule that if you post the same question on a different web site, you include a link to that post here. You posted the same question on another site. We have these rules so that people do not waste time trying to answer a question in one place that has already been answered in another place, and also so that people can build on progress instead of wasting time starting from scratch.

Just for the sake of trying to help you out I am going to provide the link to your other thread here.

But as a member for over a year, please become familiar with the rules.

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

We would very much like to help you with your query, however it has been brought to our attention that the same query has been posted on one or more other forums and you have not told us about this. You are required to do so. Cross-posts are allowed but you must provide a link to your posts on other sites.

Please see Forum Rule #7 about cross-posting and adjust accordingly. Read this to understand why we (and other sites like us) consider this to be important: https://excelguru.ca/a-message-to-forum-cross-posters/

Follow up - I am trying to find where I can completely shut down my account - can someone point me in the right direction. No one is going to be able to follow this thread from my original wording and changes, I just need to start over with another forum.

This thread was moved to the General section. That was before you completely trashed it by changing the opening post. You should simply have added a new post to it with the new approach.

You are not going to get a new thread. Continue here, please.

I don't want a new thread anymore, I want this totally deleted so I can use a different forum. I would delete the whole account but was told to just stop using, but if this post still exists I will not be able to use other forums. I promise I will never waste anyones time again on this site if you just help me to get rid of this post. I know this is free, but I can't believe how snarky you have been. I was just trying to get some help.

Why do you think you can't use other forums if this thread exists? That's nonsense - of course you can as long as you tell the other forum where else you have asked the same question. Nobody has been snarky here!

We clearly have a very different definition of snarky and helpful. note the completely unneeded "!" in the last post. I will sign off for good.

To all those who were beyond helpful in the past, my many thanks and keep fighting the good excel fight.
