Help with seconds to minute calculation
For some reason excel seems to be calculating this in error
314.50 seconds is equal to 5.24 minutes. and I'm using the following formula in cell O2 =O2/(60*60*24)
But the total in the output cell is 00:05:15
the 314.50 is set to number and the 00:05.15 is set to a custom hh:mm:ss
why is it not calculating correctly, am I missing something here ?
Checking this on an iPad so I can't use Custom Formats. However, using TEXT shows:
= 00:05:14.5Formula:

So, formatted as "hh:mm:ss" is correctly showing 00:05:15
Note: 5 minutes is 300 seconds so you have 14.5 seconds left over.

why do you think it is wrong? 314.50/60 = 5.2416667 minutes, minus the 5 and you have .2416667 seconds which multiplied by 60 (seconds in a minute) = 14.5 seconds rounded up to 15 seconds.
so 5 minutes and 15 seconds.

00:05:24 = 324s = 0,00375 * 60 * 60 * 24

That's a decimal value, not a Time value. As I explained, logically, 5 minutes is 300 seconds so, if you take that off 314.5 decimal value, you are left with 14.5 seconds. You therefore need to display 00:05:14.5 as a Time value.
