Separating data tabs from analysis tabs? What's best practice?

Hi gang. Getting back into Excel after a decade hiatus. Am I supposed to separate data tabs from analysis and decisions tabs? I have two tabs of raw data - one of them is a list of applications a client has in their enterprise, another is a list of capabilities a client has. I'm trying to map each application to a capability, and then make a recommendation to either RETIRE or RETAIN this application and document that. So where do I document that? A blank new slide obviously has no data in it so how am I supposed to set up my spreadsheet for success here?

What's the best way to set up your workbooks for raw data and analysis success?

Thanks DJ. Updated - Microsoft 365 MSO Version 2208 Build 16.0.15601.20742 64-bit. Tactically how do I do that... meaning if I create a PivotTable that will analyze multiple tabs of results, and then I record some data as a result of that analysis, how/where do I record that?

The source data is what you separate from analysis, but if you join tables and generate new data from it you can also separate it, normally I would use Power Query to do this because the resultant table has no formulas that can change. And if it is very important I would break the link with PQ to not risk someone using Refresh button and changing it, but would you want to keep adding data to the table, them keep the link.
I consider PivotTable a little bit easier to mess around with the data, so I prefer PQ.
But there are many techniques that can be used, at the end it is case by case.
