    If you're talking about in an Excel formula, the exclamation point references data in another worksheet. So if you have sheet1 and sheet2 and in sheet 1 you have a formula that reads =SUM(Sheet2!B2:B7), you are referencing the sum of b2:b7 on sheet 2.
