How can I open an xls file in office powerpoint?

I have Office Powerpoint on my Windows xp. When I try to open a xls file, it
says it needs to know what program wrote it to open it. What can I do?

Do you have Excel installed on the computer where you are
trying to open this file? You would need that application.

If you can get the originator of the Excel file to save the workbook as
a web page you can open that in PowerPoint.

Maybe you could use the free excel viewer from Microsoft.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...7-75edbd03aaf0
    (one line in your browser)
    (10 meg about)

    or use OpenOffice
    http://www.openoffice.org (65 meg about)

And maybe visit eBay for a slightly older version of xl (xl2k is pretty nice if
    you can find it cheap).
