    Smile Silly Questions

    Hi people

Would greatly appreciate some help on my silly questions:

    1. When using filters, what SUM function can I use to indicate the sum of the columns filtered and not the whole sheet?

    2. I need to populate a cell with data information from other cells.
Eg. For creating invoices, I want it to take the data information from 3 other cells to automatically create an invoice number.

Any advice would be greatly apprecaited!!!

    Thanks
    Tania

    Hi!

I'd welcome a bit more information.

On the totalling of items with a common feature I think you could look at subtotal on the Data menu. But could be you need sumif or sumproduct. Can you give a bit more illustration of you data?

On the populating of a cell, sounds as though you might use concatenation (&).
For example, if you want an invoice number in cell A4 which picks up data from A1, A2, A3 you can string together any bits you like (virtually) from A1 - A3 . Example: =A1 & A2 & A3 would give a result which is the whole contents of A1, A2 and A3 strung together. You can also take parts of each cell and link them.

More detail needed if you want help with doing that.

    Alf
