Return only 1 instance in a list

    hi,

im sure this question has been asked many times and its a really simple answer, but ive searched and my brain is going to explode in a minute

ive got a large list of Names in colum C of a worksheet called 'Raw Data'.
    they are in alphabetical order.

All i want to do is return 1 instance of each name into another list.

    i.e

    original List:

    John smith
    John smith
    John smith
    John smith
    John smith
    Kenneth Smith
    Kenneth Smith
    Kenneth Smith
    Kenneth Smith
    Luke Jones
    Luke Jones
    Luke Jones
    Luke Jones

    New List:

    John Smith
    Kenneth Smith
    Luke Jones

    any help greatly appreiciated.

    version: excel 2003.

The advanced filter allows you to copy just the unique cells to a new column within the same worksheet.

Just specify the range, copy to location and click the 'unique fields' box.

I would use Microsoft Query from the Data, Get External Data in Excel, link to an Excel workbook using the Excel driver, which has the source data (don't forget to have a named range in the source data).

In query select the field with the names in and under the View, Query properties in Microsoft Query select Group records, return this back to Excel from File, Return data to Microsoft Excel aqnd you should have your list of names
