Unhappy Copying formula - incrementing column letter rather than row number

    Hello all,

Imagine you create a formula in cell A2 that says, say, =A1 / 2

If you drag / copy that formula right to cell B2, the formula changed to =B1 / 2 - all is groovy, and if you drag downwards, you get A2 / 2 and so on - drag right to increment the column letters, drag down to increment the row numbers...

So......How do I copy a formula downwards but, this time, increment the Column rather than the row?

I want my first column to have the formulas:

    A1 / 2
    B1 / 2
    C1 / 2

and so on, is there a way to do this other than by hand? I've tried copying the correct formulas from row and pasting then 'transposed', but they still change...

    Any advice warmly welcome! Thanks,

    Amy

suppose you have 3 filled cells in row A for which you want to enter formula in the 3 column cells. Say you have values in cells A1, B1, and C1.

Select A2 to A4. Enter the formula (which goes in the first cell of the selection)
    =TRANSPOSE(A1:C1)/2
    and press control shift enter
