    Percentage question

I'm pretty much a noob at excel. What im trying to do is make a spreadsheet for supplies so all i do is enter the quantity and the price is worked out.

    Item A - List Price £50 - Discount 85.5% - QTY 8 - Total.

When in excel it just takes £1 off that total. I have no clue how to get excel to take off a percentage of something. Can anyone help?

    Col A: Item
    Col B: List Price
Col C: Discount (as a percent, eg: 15%)
    Col D: Quantity
    Col E: Extended Price

    E2: =+B2*(1-C2)*D2

    Does that help?

Not quite sure what you mean, but here's what I think you mean.

If you want to discount a price by 85.5%, in other words, you want to find out what 14.5% of the original price is. (100-85.5)

BUt because its percentages, excel take them as a decimal of 1, so 20% = 0.2 and 85.5% = 0.855

So your formula needs to be something like:-
    =(50*(1-0.855))*8
