    text formating

I am trying to transfer information from a "data entry" worksheet into a common form.

The format for the data to be input in to the common form is ###-###-###

However, when I use that format in the data entry worksheet, it shows up in this format #########

The only way around this that I have been able to find is to actually input the number (dashes and all) and format the data entry cell to "text".

My problem is compounded by the fact that the common form is not my own and I cannot alter the cells on it.

Is there any way around this?

Try using the Custom Format section and enter this:

    ###"-"###"-"###

    123456789

    becomes

    123-456-789

    Does this work for you?

If you select format cells and select custom and under the type enter either ###-###-### or 000-000-000. This will then create the correct format for the cell. (If the number has leading zeros you will want to use the option 000-000-000)

Neither of these options worked - it's no problem with the data entry cell... it looks perfect! But when I goto the cell which is the custom form which I am going to print off and mail away - the format comes out ######### instead of ###-###-###

Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, I cannot customize the form myself in any way- which is a real pain in the you know what.

    any other ideas?
